What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy helps people affected by injury, illness or disability through movement and exercise, manual therapy, education and advice.

Physiotherapists maintain health for people of all ages, helping patients to manage pain and prevent disease. The profession helps to encourage development and facilitate recovery, enabling people to stay in work while helping them to remain independent for as long as possible.

Common Conditions

Physiotherapists are able to treat and rehabilitate a wide range of conditions, from acute sports injuries to long term health conditions.

Our team of physiotherapists are experienced in dealing with a variety of joint issues but most commonly see backs, necks, shoulders, elbows, hips, knees and ankles. Recovery from muscle and other soft tissue injuries can be optimised and specified to you with the help of a physio, as well as some neurological problems.

Physiotherapy is also a proven way of improving the outcomes for orthopaedic patients. Whether you are on the list for, or have had a joint replacement or are recovering from a fracture or dislocation, a physiotherapist will be able to help.

How Can Physiotherapy Help Me?

At your initial consultation, your physiotherapist will want to get to know you and your presenting problem. We know that everyone experiences pain differently and everyone has different motivations for rehabilitating and getting better so finding out more about you is an important part of the process.

Pain is unpleasant and can often be very worrying. One of the primary roles of a physiotherapist is to diagnose the cause of the pain and explain the reasons for it. With an understanding of underlying cause, the physiotherapist and client work together to create a treatment plan specific to you and your goals. Treatment may include hands-on manual therapy, exercise therapy or education regarding symptom management.
