When assessing the hip joint we look at muscle strength and how this may affect the way the hip moves and how this may contribute to the hip pain. Hip pain can also refer symptoms to others parts of the body such as the outside of the knee. Assessment aims to highlight where the pain is coming from and the best way to address it!

Piriformis Syndrome

Symptoms:

Pain, numbness or tingling in the buttock

Tightness of the buttocks

Abnormal neural symptoms down leg

Treatment and rehabilitation options:

The main aim when treating this injury is the reduce the pain the client is feeling, a number of treatment methods can be used to achieve this such as soft tissue massage, myofascial cupping and acupuncture.

Hip Impingement

Symptoms:

Pinching sensation in the hip

Tightness of thigh muscles

Hip stiffness after activity

Treatment and rehabilitation options:

When treating this injury and aims are to decrease muscle tightness and improve joint movements, this can be achieved using soft tissue massage and joint mobilisations. Rehabilitation can also be given to achieve improve these factors so progress can continue at home.

Aching pain in the lower abdominal area

Groin pain aggravated by activity, especially sit ups

Pain when coughing
